Hooray for productivity!

So, it's VEISHEA week here at school. A huge week-long celebration of the great institution we growing minds attend here in central Iowa. There are things going on all week, unfortunately, my teachers are unaware of this and scheduled a quiz, a paper, and 2 tests...all due Friday.

I made my way to the library Monday night and made a pretty good dent in one test and returned today to spend my entire afternoon on the second. I was feeling sorry for myself and expected to be working all alone in the library while everyone else went to barbeques, parties, or played frisbee on central campus.

Much to my surprise, the library was busier than usual! I guess everyone's teachers are oblivious.

I'm sure none of us want to be here studying, when it's such a beautiful day out, but it just shows that most students my age do have their priorities in order. We're putting in our time today so we can relax over the weekend and take part in the fun stuff. Procrastination is usually the way of the college student, but planning ahead even a little will make Thursday and Friday a lot less stressful.

Make it work!

Finals week already??...

3 tests this week. No, it's not finals yet. My teachers just hate me.

I smell an all-nighter in the future...... and you know what that means!

Right here, Right now

Unbelievable.

Spring break and the 2 weeks to follow were some of the best ever! The time in AZ went by fast, but we got to do a lot of things: 

1)Fed an ostrich and rode through the desert on a monster truck

2)Drove to Tucson and learned how to identify the awesome AZ cacti

3)Watched skydivers jump to their impending death for free

4)Got a sweet tan

5)Took this picture (see right)

After returning and now depressed to be wearing a coat in IA, we soon found out our women's basketball team was traveling to the SWEET SIXTEEN!! And, as a member of the pep band I got to travel to San Francisco with them! We had an awesome time there (spent most of it shopping and sight seeing) even though in the end we lost in the Elite 8.

3 days later I exchanged a swimsuit for a scarf and headed for Manhattan, KS for a group retreat--realized how much I really love my college friends.

I think I should have my own show on the Travel Channel. Homework is really getting in the way of my life!

The break for spring

Spring break could not come sooner. For this glorious week of no classes, I have the privilege of going back to my hometown to see my wonderful parents and one of my best friends from elementary school. You see, this is the first spring break in 8 years that our spring breaks have fallen on the same week. As a birthday present, her parents are flying her up to visit the great state of Iowa. We have plans to make deluxe pancakes, go camping (despite the bitter cold!), and road-trip to visit other friends across the state. I am looking forward to a break from my routine and a week of random adventures.

Spring Break!

Woot woot! Spring break is almost here...which means road trip-18 hours of driving!!

Road trip 1 is to my hometown where I will see a friend that graduated from college last year and have one day to hang with my younger sister who goes to a different college (our breaks were off by one week...boo).
Road trip 2 is to my boyfriend's hometown (yep we are one of "those couples" that hates to be separated). He is getting his wisdom teeth out :( so I am going to take care of him and do homework all week at his parents house before leaving for road trip 3!
Road trip 3 is back to my hometown to see my older sister, her husband, and their son! I am psyched to spend the weekend with them while they visit my parents!

All in all it will be a good time and it won't be the typical, lame drunken spring break...it is going to be better because I am going to be at home and actually on a short break from life at college!!

2 tickets to paradise!!!

As much as I am LOVING(not) this Iowa weather, can I just say how excited I am for SPRING BREAK!

Picture this: poolside dinner service, a 24/7 personal chauffeur, FREE housing and food. Sounds like a fantasy, right?

Not at Palm Creek Golf and RV Resort. I will be spending 6 fun-filled days with my best friend in the deserts of Arizona, sipping lemonade and laying by the pool...oh, and did I mention the senior citizen fashion shows and mother-daughter teas? Palm Creek is a retirement community for very active seniors, and it just happens to be the place where my awesome grandparents have wintered the last 16 years. Now, don't judge. My grandparents have already made plans for us to go to an African Safari park and spend a day in Mexico!!! Talk about an "alternative spring break"!

Decide Already!

For a non-decision maker, life has been getting interesting for me. When I can't even make my mind up on what to wear in the morning, how am I supposed to make real life changing decisions?

But I've realized that I've been making life changing decisions my entire life. Simple 'smart' decisions I have made throughout high school have allowed me to be a student at a university today. Deciding that I am going to get up for my 8 am classes have given me grades that I'm relying on getting me into graduate school.

For some reason these 'real life changing' decisions seem to be taking care of themselves.

No Voice

For three days this week I did not have a voice. I was forced to sit in class and just listen. When I hung out with my friends and roommates all I could do was listen.

I learned something vital about myself through all of this. I am not that great at listening nor do I enjoy not being able to give my feedback to others. It was a humbling experience not being able to talk about myself or how I was feeling. I realized how much I really do talk and that it can actually be more beneficial to just listen to others sometimes. I am going to practice this more, even when I do have a voice.
