Gotta love a road trip...

This weekend, I spent 12 hours in 2 vans with 28 of my closest friends. We went to KSU for a club convention. I really didn't realize just how far Kansas is from here. It's a long way when 15 of you are squeezed into a 15 passenger van. Personal bubbles were popped almost immediately and people were banned from stopping at Taco Bell for lunch. After an hour my right leg was asleep and my bus buddy couldn't turn her head to the left. Sounds fun, right?...

ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!
We had the best time coloring Disney princess pictures, exchanging iPods, karaoke-ing along with the radio, and of course, using each other as pillows. One thing I've noticed as we've gotten older is that we give the driver a lot more respect than we did in high school. We keep each other in check to keep the volume down and the guy in the front seat knows that he may have to be navigator rather than Britney Spears superstar lip-syncher.
Road trips can be even more fun than your destination if you have the right attitude. Keep it safe, keep it fun!

Flying Around

This is a miniature version of a poster I am currently working on. Buddy, my brother's dog, was thrilled to help out with the project. Be safe out there.

Be nice. Be bold.

So the other day I was listening to my radio and the D.J.'s were talking about how mean people are these days. Mostly they were talking about road rage...and how it is all the "rage" these days and it should not be. As I listened to this I laid on my own horn as a man in front of me (who was talking on the phone) stayed stopped at a green light.

In the midst of feeling guilty, the D.J.'s said they had an idea. Instead of being mean when you are in the car, be nice. How can I do that? The answer was convenient: Fast food. Pay for the order of the person behind you. I had heard of it before but I had never tried it. It was being nice to people without recognition for my acts, it was bold.

The next day I put this thought into action and paid for the person behind me at Starbucks...the gesture really did relieve road rage. I felt better about being nice to others around me and I became more patient as I drove to my destination.

Dependency: cars and life

I am learning to be humble through my car. Normally my car is reliable, but this winter it isn’t at all. We had 3 cold days and now my car is not starting, which makes me dependent on others and forces me to humble myself and ask for help. The freedom of having my own ride is gone!

This brought me to an interesting thought: am I a person that hates being dependent on others? I don’t want to need someone for his or her transportation…or for anything. I want to be independent as much as I can, but I need to learn to be humble enough to ask for help.
